Whew, it’s been a minute since I’ve graced these internet streets! If you’ve been following me on social (as you should be @BrokeOnPurpose), then you know that the Mister and I uprooted our lives and moved back to the South. There is something magical about obeying God’s word and trusting that he will make a way where you don’t necessarily see any. From the thought to the actual doing everything went seamlessly. I’ll share more on that with you later though so stay tuned.
As you can see from the lack of postings, we’ve been operating without a meal plan since March and let me tell you it’s been hard as hell! Putting our home on the market threw a massive wrench in all my family planning. I was living a fly by night lifestyle when it came to doing anything. Here’s something that they don’t tell you. When you’re selling a home, you’re no longer in control of your schedule. While you can set some boundaries, to sell your house quickly, you’re basically at the mercy of the buyer and their agenda. There were days we couldn’t cook due to not wanting smells to linger in the home and had to choose “safe” take out options instead. Luckily for us, this was a smooth process, and we had a buyer that was on top of her stuff. The house changed ownership on April 19th (we listed it on March 11th), and between the actual move, unpacking, and preparing for the My Taught You Retreat, which I can’t wait to tell you all about, we’ve been living a life where dinner is decided based on how we feel. This “eat what we feel in the moment” living was giving me extreme anxiety and was killing our food budget so I declared that I’d make a meal plan when I got back from the My Taught You Retreat
Here are a few things I had to keep in mind while making this months meal plan.
- We no longer have a deep freezer. When the movers were loading the truck we were at the last bit of space and it came down to the deep freezer or my plants. I choose the plants, so because of this, I can’t buy in bulk like I used to. This means that meals have to be planned according to what’s most abundant and reasonably priced at the grocery store.
- Since we’ve moved I’ve been off my eating plan which consisted of only 20% dairy, little to no processed foods, and no red meat. Even though the weight gain has been minimal I can still see changes in other areas in my body that I’m not happy with i.e, gastrointestinal and skin. So, when I created this meal plan I created it with the idea that I was going to be doing a dietary reset while making sure the Mister had some of his favorite dishes included (hence the Steak Tacos).
- We’ve lowered our grocery budget down to $250. The Mister will be traveling a lot with his job so I incorporated several meals that will have leftovers. This is the first month doing a meal plan with his traveling so we’ll monitor how it goes and adjust in June if need be. As there are six days of leftovers incorporated into the meal plan I’m pretty confident we’ll end up under the $250 amount budgeted.
