Our Amazon Prime Day Strategy www.livebrokeonpurpose.com

Marcus and I live on Amazon, okay maybe he doesn’t, but I do.  For me, it’s all about convenience if I can have it delivered to my house and spend less money than the price at a brick and mortar store count me in! It’s also been super convenient this year as many friends who were out of state got married or had babies. All I had to do was click on their Amazon list and have the gift shipped to their home.  We’ve been prime members for years and just recently signed up for Amazon Fresh. If you haven’t tried Amazon Prime, you can Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial to see if you like it or not. The fact that I can watch movies, listen to music, read free kindle books, and get items delivered to my house with free two-day shipping or less is totally worth the yearly fee which pays for itself if you take into consideration how much you actually order.

Last week Amazon had their annual prime day, and I shared on the Broke on Purpose Instagram stories some of the items we picked up for the house during this mega shopping event. Don’t worry the budget remained intact. Every year I get an Amazon gift cards as gifts for different occasions from family and friends, and I hoard them like a pack rat in anticipation for Amazon Prime Day. Since I received a good bit of questions on what we purchased and how we found the deals I thought I’d share my strategy in a post. This year I went in with the intention of buying updated appliances for the kitchen.  While we didn’t NEED new appliances, I really wanted a slow cooker with a timer, a rotisserie oven (because I LOVE rotisserie chicken that’s seasoned to perfection, and a new blender.

This year I went in with the intention of buying updated appliances for the kitchen.  While we didn’t NEED new appliances, I really wanted a slow cooker with a timer, a rotisserie oven (because I LOVE rotisserie chicken that’s seasoned to perfection, and a new blender that didn’t cause your smoothies to taste metallic.

Before Prime Day I set a budget. See how that pesky budget always pops up. When sales occur, especially on a level like Prime Day, it’s easy to spend more than you originally want so setting a budget is key. I then stalked the appliances I had my eyes on months in advance so that I could get an idea of their pricing to be sure I was getting a good deal. None of that JCPenny mess where they say it’s sale but really marked the price up before the sale was to go live resulting in you actually paying full price. As you know with Amazon, the price of items fluctuate, sometimes on a daily basis, so it’s a good idea to add items to your “Save for Later” list so that you get notifications of price changes. I compared these prices to prices of other stores.

Here are the Appliances I was watching below

Ninja 4-in-1 Cooking System (Slow Cooker, 6-Quart Nonstick Pot, Multi-Cooker) MC950Z   Original Price $149

Ninja 4-in-1 Kitchen System (Blender, Processor, Auto-Spiralizer, High-Speed Blending Cup) AMZ012BL Original Price $259

Ronco 4000 Series Rotisserie, Stainless Steel Original Price $96.50

I was also watching the Amazon Echo. At $179 I could never bring myself to pay full price for it. There is also a certified refurbished Echo for $134

Amazon Prime Day officially started on the 11th. However, they had some early deals being advertised on the 10th. There were flash deals available that only lasted for a certain amount of time or until inventory was expired as well as deals that gave you an additional percentage off the selling price. Most people I talked too felt indifferent about the Prime Day deals, and admittedly after scrolling through the home screen, they were meh and just seemed like a whole lot of randomness. This is again why it’s important to go into Prime Day with specific items in mine.

[symple_column size=”one-half” position=”first” fade_in=”false”]On Prime Day 3 out of 4 of the items I had on my list were actually on a promotion. The Ninja 4-in-1 Cooking System (Slow Cooker, 6-Quart Nonstick Pot, Multi-Cooker) MC950Z   Original Price $149  was still $149 but offered an add’l 30% bringing the item total to $104.99, cheaper than the lowest price I’d seen it on QVC for $119.[/symple_column][symple_column size=”one-half” position=”last” fade_in=”false”][/symple_column]

[symple_column size=”one-half” position=”first” fade_in=”false”]The Ninja 4-in-1 Kitchen System (Blender, Processor, Auto-Spiralizer, High-Speed Blending Cup) AMZ012BL Original Price $259 was marked down almost $100 to  $169.99 with an additional 30% off on top of that! The total price we paid for this item before tax was $119.00 [/symple_column][symple_column size=”one-half” position=”last” fade_in=”false”][/symple_column]

The Rotisserie Oven unfortunately never went on promotion and is still on our “save for later list,” however, the Echo was surprisingly available for 50% off, and so we also picked that up.  We felt we got some really great deals during Amazon Prime Day, and we stuck to our budget. Had the Rotisserie Oven been on sale we would not have purchased the Echo.  I’ve already started using

Thanks to Amazons super fast shipping (shout out to Prime) we’ve already received and started using our new kitchen gadgets. I used to Slow Cooker to meal prep some Chicken Chili for the week (which I shared on our IG story yesterday) as well as a few other items.  If you’re interested in me posting a few our meal prep recipes, let me know in the comments below.

So that was our Amazon Prime Day Strategy. We set a budget, planned out what we wanted, did some research to compare prices, and then waited to see if the deals would be worth it. If you scored some great things on Prime Day share your finds in the comments below also.
